Bright Mornings, Dark Nights

What a glorious morning. Sun low in the crisp blue sky, frost and heavy dew everywhere with a thin coating of mist hugging the hollows and riverbed. Difficult to describe it in a more eloquent manner, but what I'm often acknowledging recently is that scenes like these are around us always...we just never see them. Chris does. He always says what he thinks! Stood on his bridge after a short run last night looking out over the Bollin.

The mist was collecting below as twilight set in, we could just make out a runner following the river. It looked inviting, surreal almost. "Headtorch" I said. "Think so", he replied, implying a future plan to embrace the night and mist. The vizzie has been out a number of times now, gloves and hat already standard fayre, the new season of running is definitely here. It's Tuesday morning and already my 3rd run of the week. Long and short yesterday, shorty this morning and runclub tonight.

It's time to get the miles in after a disorganised summer of running. James has had news of London. He's 'in'! During early-doors on Friday when he made this announcement we all shook his hand, wished him well and noted we'd catch up with him in May 2013. Marathon training is like that. All consuming and a slave to the schedule. I understand the chance to run the London Marathon is quite special and it's a box to be ticked.

But it will, or could dominate his life until April, and of course his running around with his mates. Maybe we can hang on to him for a bit, share some of his training, but it's all road miles for him now, if he's to achieve his ambitious target. But will life get in the way of his training, or will training get in the way of his life? Evidence suggests the two don't mix! I'm going to hunt for my headtorch. I might 'need' a new one! Dark Nights...you can't fight it. Bring 'em on.
