More Man-Flu

Read on...if you're man enough! Why is it that any manly attributes of the classic hunter-gather dissolve into obscurity when faced with a bit of a cold? Man-Flu has struck and it seems I am a broken man. To make matters worse, as I write this silent plea for sympathy, a wasp is toying with me, like a cat with a cornered mouse. Obviously I manned up this morning and dragged myself into work, only to admit a greater defeat and haul myself home again. I'm mixing a heady cocktail of fluey remedies and waiting for it all to kick in...and waiting.

It was looking like a good week of running around for me. A double run on Monday had me out in the morning along the runway and a welcome return of my shadow as a running partner. It was great to feel the sun on my back again. Later in the evening, I had a shakedown run with Pete after his efforts of the weekend, just to The Mill and around Styal Village with a colleague, who'd come for the Paralympic World Cup. The notion of double run sessions of sensible distance seemed quite appealing as an ongoing plan towards getting some mileage up. Pete was on good form, though strictly speaking, his coach Perry had instructed him to rest on Monday, so he was feeling somewhat rebellious in a way a 'managed' husband feels free and liberated, when in fact the grip of authority has simply been relaxed a little.

The Paralympic World Cup yesterday was a great day out, with Oscar, Rich, Stef and Jonnie putting in great performances, Jonnie in particular who smashed his PB to claim a British record of 11.32 for the 100m. Smashed is a curious word to use, when his previous was 11.50 something. But that's how it is in sprint athletics. A huge crowd in awesome sunshine made it a great day to be involved in this sport. The Paralympic Games is going to be huge. 98 days and counting... and 3hrs 30mins before my next lemony hit. Man up!
